Wordless Wednesday

If she had an Indian name, I think it would be "Talks With Her Hands."

Grace (5 years old), who really does talk with her hands...a lot.

Yeah, I don't know where she gets that from...

What would your child's Indian name be?

Overheard: The Dog Edition

The following is a collection of conversations from over the last several months or more.  While these are not all of the conversations around here on the topic of dogs, all of these conversations do, indeed, involve dogs.

~~~~~
Grace [5 years old]: Mom! Look! It's the perfect dog! It likes staying inside, it likes children, and it likes smelling!
She was reading the pictorial key along the side of an entry in a dog book:  "Dog that should sleep indoors," "Gentle dog," and "Scenting hound."  Within seconds, however, she corrected herself.
Grace: Actually, the bulldog is the perfect dog.
Her daddy has trained her well...
~~~~~

Josiah [8 years old at the time, and completely serious with his question]:  Can we use Swag Bucks to get a dog?

Jason:  That would be Wag Bucks.

~~~~~
Grace (5 years old) told her Gran'dad something that happened during our last homeschool play date (February 2012):
Grace [bubbling over with excitement, even while merely retelling the event]:  We got to play with a dog!  And it was a real, actual dog!
Yep, not one of those fake dogs.  (Grace just told me she meant that it wasn't a toy dog, but--hey--I'm the one writing this.)  The puppy belongs to one of the homeschool families, and I think the puppy loves being with all the kids as much as the kids love her.
Pictorial proof that it was, in fact, a real (not fake) dog:
Savannah Highlights
This post is from October 2009--yet another post I found languishing in my drafts folder flashback for you.
When we went to Savannah for Michael and Brandi's wedding, it never even occurred to me how confusing a downtown area could be. On the way from the hotel to the church for the rehearsal, our GPS had a nervous breakdown and began asking questions such as, "Did you go inside?" "Are you still in Georgia, USA?" "Do you still love me?"
Yeah, I made up that last one, but the others were just so funny...especially since we were running late to the rehearsal and needed the GPS to be clear-headed enough to just do it's job instead of constantly asking for reassurance.
We checked into our hotel around 5:15 p.m. after stopping something like 50 times on the way and, after feeding the kids a little something, changing into appropriate clothes, and dropping the kids off at Dad and Kathleen's hotel, we were (not surprisingly) late to the rehearsal which started at 6:00 p.m. I was "Reader #1" in the ceremony, so my part to practice had already passed...which was probably just as well because I walked into the sanctuary and saw this
and wondered how I could get someone else to read for me. Seriously, what made me agree to do the reading?!  Oh, yeah...'cause I love my cousin.  :)
Thursday Lunch Date
Wow!  Another Thursday lunch date to the Blue Willow Inn?!?
Um...no.  But I thought I'd share some of the photos I took last week.
We sat in the Lewis Grizzard room, which made me realize how very many books of his I'd read during my childhood.  I can't say it all made sense to me at the time, but I read 'em...probably because they were simply there in my house.  This isn't all of the framed book covers in the room; it was just all I could take pictures of while still being seated.   ;)
In the buffet room:
Jason knew I would be tickled
to take pictures of
to tour the upstairs, so he asked if we could.  They let us.
The fountain from an upstairs window:
The flag and a front porch column from an upstairs window:
Have you ever been to the Blue Willow Inn?  If so, when?  Was it for a special occasion?
Wordless Wednesday: Sleep
Now, really, who sleeps with their hands tucked under their cheek like princesses do in Disney movies?  Who?
Grace--that's who!  She always looks like she's posing when she's sleeping like this.
You Capture: Still Life
This week's theme for You Capture is still life.   I photographed some pine cones that have been hanging out on my back porch for a couple of days.  These are some I had Josiah gather when I was hot-gluing pine cones on my front door wreath--they are extras for when the inevitable happens and a pine cone dives from the wreath.
I took these next two shots this afternoon when my husband surprised me with a lunch date to the Blue Willow Inn.  I have lived most of my life within about an hour of this famous restaurant, and yet this was my first time eating there.  We toured the upstairs of the mansion and that's when I took this shot of a front porch column:
There were lovely ornamental cabbage beds around the walkways.
...and, yes, our lunch date was fabulous!  What a treat!
Grace
Grace, age 5 (April 2011)
I was looking through some photos last night and found this one of Grace--I love it!  Sweet photo, and sweet girl.  This photo was taken during a vacation to Jacksonville, FL.  I have just now ordered prints of (a small percentage of) the photos from that trip.  Sigh...
Back before the days of digital cameras, I was really, really good about getting photos developed.  Now?  Notsomuch.  What about you?
Check out other photos from our vacation here.
