The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

Last weekend, we went to my cousin's wedding at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia. These are some of the photos I took while we were there. (Follow this link to see more photos and to take a virtual tour.)

Outside the cathedral on the evening of the wedding...

Grace, in awe of the ornate sanctuary...

Looking towards the front of the sanctuary...

Looking to the right of where we were seated...this area is labeled "BVM" (the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary) on the floorplan of the church at this site. During the ceremony, the bride and groom walked over to this area and placed a bouquet of flowers on the small bench you can see at the bottom center of this photo. (This was the first Catholic wedding I have attended, so I had to look for information about this. Follow this link or this link to learn a little more about this part of the ceremony.)

Looking to the right of where we were seated...

These next three photos didn't come out well at all, but I'm including them anyway to let you see how there were beautiful paintings and carvings throughout the sanctuary.

The pipe organ, which was above the rear doors of the sanctuary...

You can see some of the many columns in this other shot of the pipe organ.

Husband and wife!

I took this shot as we left to go to the reception. You can get a glimpse of the immense size of the sanctuary.

If you ever have the chance to go to Savannah, you're going to have to tour this cathedral! I plan on talking Jason into touring it the next time we are in the area. Because, really, I didn't take nearly enough photos... ;)

You Capture: Autumn

This week’s theme of the You Capture blog carnival hosted by Beth over at I Should Be Folding Laundry is Autumn.

Autumn in Georgia? Hmmm...let's see...

Some flowers are still blooming.

Swimming time is well over (much to the disappoint of some).

They both looked like they wanted to jump in!

Leaves are changing colors...

and falling.

Several of these photos were taken at my sister- and brother-in-law's home, when we spent the night there on the way back from our Savannah trip last weekend. Grace watched as I uploaded some of the photos and kept asking me, "Are those Cindy's 'falowahs'?" So, yes, those are Cindy's flowers...the pool and dog are hers, too. :)

Check out I Should Be Folding Laundry for more You Capture participants.

The Wedding

We went to my cousin Michael's wedding last weekend in Savannah. To say that it was beautiful would be an understatement! I'll post more photos of the church soon, but for now I wanted to share some photos of the happy couple:

Exchanging of the rings.

And now they are husband and wife! (My aunt and uncle are on the far left.)

Congratulations, Michael and Brandi!

You Capture: Technology

This week's theme for You Capture is Technology...otherwise known as the week Robert (age 12) had this imaginary conversation with himself:

"So, what did Mom do today?"
"Took pictures of the microwave."
"Uhhhhh...really? Then what did she do?"
"Took pictures of the remote controls."

So, thank you, Beth. You have stretched my imagination once again with the weekly theme and also totally baffled my family. ;) In fact, my husband just walked by and, seeing the photos I was working on, asked, “Tell me again why you took a picture of our remotes? [As though I told him in the first place.] Was it because they were all in the same place for once?”

Maybe that was it…

As I was thinking about the theme of “Technology,” I thought briefly about taking a photo of our many, many cables for our many, many electrical devices (cell phones, camera, MP3 players…) but I am sick of looking at those as it is.

So I moved on. I thought of the microwave…as I was standing in front of it and, quite serious at the time, thinking, “HURRY UP!” (Now, really, how pathetic is that?)

And you already know there will be the remote controls.

More bars in more places?

And just yesterday, Grace (age 3) decided to watch her favorite movie while following along in her favorite book.

But one thing that popped into my mind was the thought of the interruption of technology. Much like the many cables and cords are an aggravation, what about all the wires in our outside world that disrupt our view of this world that God made?

If you’ve been around here before, you most likely have seen my love of “pretty sky pictures” as one of my friends calls them. Like these…

(The last three photos were taken on the same night within 6 minutes.)

Hop on over to I Should Be Folding Laundry to see what other people captured this week.

Untitled Hymn

This is a beautiful song we sang during our worship service on Sunday. I thought I'd share it with y'all...

Untitled Hymn
by Chris Rice

Weak and wounded sinner
Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus and live!

Now your burden's lifted
And carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain, so
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus and live!

And like a newborn baby
Don't be afraid to crawl
And remember when you walk
Sometimes we fall...so
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus and live!

Sometimes the way is lonely
And steep and filled with pain
So if your sky is dark and pours the rain, then
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus and live!

O, and when the love spills over
And music fills the night
And when you can't contain your joy inside, then
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus and live!

And with your final heartbeat
Kiss the world goodbye
Then go in peace, and laugh on Glory's side, and
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live!

Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live!

This photo was taken by Robert

Lyrics to Untitled Hymn were found here.

Giveaway: Stickers or Labels from Uprinting.com

You might have seen the button on my left sidebar for Uprinting.com, an online printing company. Earlier this year I became a sponsored blogger with Uprinting, which basically means I advertise for them and, in return, they offer some very generous giveaways to my readers as well as me. I think that's pretty cool!

Not only does Uprinting.com print business cards, wall graphics, and a bunch of other things, they also print stickers! This giveaway is for custom printed stickers or labels...250 of them! And it is absolutely free, with free shipping.

One of my readers will be receiving 250 Stickers/Labels from UPrinting.com...it might as well be you, right? All you have to do is leave a comment to have a chance to win. And if you subscribe to my blog by email, you can leave an extra comment for another chance to win!

For hosting this giveaway, I will be receiving 250 stickers, too. How cool is that? I imagine I will use this image on the stickers I will receive, unless my husband has other ideas:

Our new Children's Church logo.

I think this would be great as a sticker, too:

(That's Josiah when he was nearly four years old. Robert took that photo about two weeks before Grace was born...he is still every bit as exuberant as he looks in this shot!)

So, how would you use the stickers? Customized address labels? Favorite photo? Business or church logo? Something else? Leave a comment and let me know!

Giveaway Prize Details
